What Is a Level 2 Residential Assisted Living Home in Louisiana?

When families begin exploring senior care options, they often encounter a range of terms—nursing home, assisted living facility, memory care, and more. In Louisiana, there’s a special category called Level 2 Residential Assisted Living, which is exactly what Lynnwood Place is licensed as.

Not a Nursing Home—A Senior Care Home

A Level 2 Residential Assisted Living (RAL) home is not a nursing home. While nursing homes provide skilled nursing care and medical services for residents with significant medical needs, Level 2 RAL homes focus on personal care and assistance with daily living in a comfortable, home-like setting.

In Louisiana, Level 2 licensure means we can:

  • Provide 24-hour personal care services

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and eating

  • Offer medication management as directed by a physician

  • Support residents with mild cognitive impairments or early-stage memory care needs

  • Create individualized care plans based on each resident’s needs and preferences

What we don’t do is provide complex medical procedures or the level of skilled nursing care found in hospitals or nursing homes.

Smaller Scale, Personalized Care

Unlike large “big box” assisted living facilities that may have 50–100+ residents, a Level 2 RAL like Lynnwood Place is intentionally small—in our case, just 12 private bedrooms. This allows for a close-knit community where caregivers know each resident personally and can respond quickly to their needs.

Meeting Louisiana’s Standards

Louisiana’s Department of Health licenses and regulates Level 2 RAL homes to ensure safety, quality of care, and appropriate staffing. This licensure requires compliance with specific building, staffing, and training requirements designed to protect residents while preserving the warmth of a residential environment.

In short: A Level 2 Residential Assisted Living home bridges the gap between independent living and nursing home care. It’s ideal for seniors who need daily assistance and a safe, supportive environment—but also want to enjoy a comfortable home and community atmosphere.

At Lynnwood Place, we believe that care should feel like family, and our Level 2 licensure ensures we can provide that care with both compassion and professionalism.
